What are good openers and closers questions that will help me sell a service that is free to a home owner?

Fro asked:

I’m having trouble cause I have 5-6 months left in the area I’m ion to make some sales and there is wind and hail damage around, but how do I close the sale when people are all arrogant and don’t want to be bothered. Is there anything I can tighten up? I walk up and greet them saying HI my name is —– and I work for —–, how would you like to know how to get a free roof or siding? Then they say sure, and I tell them that I am going around in their neighborhood and inspecting homes for storm wind or hail damage, to see if the homeowner qualifies for our services, I’ll take a look around and we’ll meet up again after I’m done with the inspection and go over the damage report. So what am I doing wrong, people are just pushy, they don’t want me there, or they are too busy themselves or just simply don’t want to be bothered. I know enthusiasm helps but how do I make them aware that I am working for them when it is free? Also how do I stay up beat when people are telling me no. I am brand new to sales and just want to make it work. It gives people work and me work and also gives the homeowner a good roof or siding or even a new mailbox if it has damage. I really just need help on opening and closing questions that will help me out? Any idea’s? Please be sincere, I really want people to up the value of their homes and not have leaks into their woodwork, that house could be yours or mine one day? It helps everyone. The homeowner doesn’t have to supplement anything to their insurance company, we do everything from contracting the work to supplementing the damage to their insurance company. All the home owner has to do is sign a contract having found damage, and I can’t even get the okay to look at their home. Please HELP

I think the opening line is a loser. How would you like to get a free roof or siding? It sounds like a scam and if someone came to my door with that line, I’d tell them to get lost. A better line might be: If you have insurance, I can help provide licensed, insured, work-crew to do repairs at no additional cost to you. You pay so much for insurance and you deserve the best…blah, blah, blah.
Personally, I don’t like door to door sales and have never bought anything that way. I might respond to a well-worded postcard or flyer.
We (homeowners) have to be careful, there are a lot of scammers out there. I live in Florida and the field that you’re in is overrun by scammers. A lot of them get caught but pity the poor homeowner who has done business with them.
